From The Workshop Floor To Your Bottom Line

My name is Craig Haidley. I started as a glazier, learned leadership on the rugby field, and built a career from the workshop floor up. A rugby injury forced me off the tools and into business management, where I spent the next 15 years as a General Manager in the glass and stone benchtop machinery industry — developing a deep interest in production engineering, automation, and smarter business systems.

During those years, I watched talented, hardworking fabricators leave serious money on the table — not from lack of skill, but from business models that hadn't evolved with the industry. Outside influences had shaped a mindset that locked in inefficiency, and nobody was challenging it.

Bolt-On Consultancy was founded to change that. Our role is to strengthen what already works — preserving your trade integrity while bolting on world-class tools, modern marketing, and streamlined systems that drive real growth. Built from the industry, for the industry.

Our business has a long history in the glass industry. We started out as West End Glass back in 1958 in Bankstown. After some early growing pains the partnership was restructured and then relocated to Fairford Road, Padstow, where the business gradually expanded with glazing, cut-to-size and processing at the core of what we do. Over time that growth brought with it a sprawling footprint across five separate properties, which was creating real inefficiencies and eating into our bottom line.

The project we brought to Craig was essentially about finding the best way to consolidate. We needed to bring all of our current operations — plus some new offerings we were looking to introduce — under one or two roofs rather than five. The catalyst was both necessity and opportunity. Once the vast expanse of property was properly assessed the return on investment, the case for capital expenditure on a smarter, more consolidated setup became very clear.

I came across Craig through his involvement in our industry and the various business ventures he's associated with. My expectation going in was that BOC would help us uncover our options for growth and efficiency through footprint consolidation, and give us a clear view of what equipment investments might lift our productivity and broaden our market offering. Those expectations were met. The scope of the project and the level of detail Craig brought to it were comprehensive — it clarified a number of grey areas and gave us real direction. He broke the plan into stages and provided effective layout drawings that gave us something tangible to work with.

One of the most valuable things the process revealed was just how far beyond our actual requirements our current property footprint is. Craig's business and layout experience combined with his deep industry and equipment knowledge was central to that. The more you see, the more you know — and that breadth of knowledge was evident throughout.
